The team is led by Mr. Joyce, who has been a coach for over 40 years, and captain, Ethan Scanell. As previous seniors John Miele and Kevin Poppert graduated last year, many new underclass boys have joined in efforts to make the team better than ever. “Though we lost some valuable players this past year, a lot of students have stepped up their game to bring us to victory. I am proud of our achievements so far, and what is in store for us this season,” stated senior, Ethan Scanell. This year’s seniors include Ethan Scannell, Mike McNulty, Tanner Long, Jason Heinzroth, Tom Ciano, John Patrick Krotulias, and Brian Lafferty. Other younger members, such as David Schuld and Joey Chiusano are returning to play another season.  To help prepare the boys host pasta parties for their teammates in order to get excited and bond. As the season progresses the team gets closer, ultimately leading to better teamwork. “I could not ask for better teammates. We are all comfortable and friends, so it makes coming to practice a great time and fun experience,” says senior, Brian Lafferty.

The team practices a few times a week in Marucci Park, on 3rd Ave and South Boulevard in Spring Lake. Practices take place after school and the boys work on their backhand, volley, forehand, and matches. The team works hard each practice and their hard work and dedication is proven during their matches. This season they will play against one of their biggest rivals, Ranney High School. Senior Mike McNulty explains, “Ranney is a huge competition for us. We work diligently each day so we are prepared; it is always a fun match to be a part of!”

The Boys’ Tennis team hopes to achieve success in their season, as Mr. Joyce leads them to victory. With all of his experience, there is no doubt that the team will do their best. “Each year I am proud of the commitment and dedication my team puts forth. I am constantly impressed with their spirit and energy, they truly make coaching easy,” stated Mr. Joyce.  Overall, the team has a great attitude for yet another season, and high expectations for what they can accomplish. The Boys Tennis Team calls all their fellow Purple Roses to come support a match this season!
