Advice from the Senior Class

As the senior’s time at St. Rose concludes, many of the seniors feel various different emotions. For most, it is a bittersweet feeling that can not be explained. You’re not sure whether  to be happy to be graduating and move on to the next chapter of your life, or to be sad about all that you are leaving behind. However, every students is leaving behind a legacy at St. Rose. To the underclassmen: as you go through your days in this school, fill each one with memories and take pride in the legacy you leave behind. Your hardwork and dedication will pay off! Julia Renna shares her advice, stating, “STUDY STUDY STUDY but enjoy the little moments of high school and the friendships you make along the way because it is over before you know it.”

When walking through the hallways of St. Rose, smile at every face, say hello to everyone, and remember that your four years of high school will fly by, so treasure them! “Don’t be afraid to make new friends senior year, because they can become some of your best friends,” salutatorian, Jillian Barry shares. St. Rose possesses a unique friendly environment that is difficult to find anywhere else – take advantage of this! Be friends with everyone, stay out of drama and don’t stress too much about the little things. Be social and be yourself. “Make a groupchat of 20 people or as many friends as you can, that way everyone is on the same page, you can always have someone to talk to,” says Senior, Sam Boehmcke, as she offers great advice for making and keeping friendships.

Many of the teachers at St. Rose leave impacts on our students. Senior, Jen Louro, says, “Everyone should have Ms. Steppe. She is so passionate about what she is teaching and she is so kind and loving to everyone and everything.” Sam Boehmke shares, “Everyone should take Mr. Joyce’s classes, take everyone single one.” Bryn Onoshko believes every student should take “Mr. Fletcher’s AP US History class because I felt engaged in the lessons we learned everyday. He is one of the nicest teachers I’ve ever had.” Billy Frost tells that “Mr. Perrino offers great advice and he is cool and young and a great teacher, it’s hard not to love him.” Kirsten Heine, agreeing with Billy, shares, “It is worth being challenged in AP Calculus just to get to know Mr. Perrino. He is the best.”

Making memories that will last a lifetime is one of the best things you can do as a senior. Don’t be afraid to try new things! Caroline McHugh shares, “Honestly give the khakis a shot because they are so comfy and they have big pockets.” Ava O’Shaughnessy strongly believes to befriend everyone’s favorite lunch lady, stating,  “Worship Gail. She has the best cookies I’ve ever had and her kindness never fails to brighten my day.” Griffin McDermott believes in sharing the love every day at St. Rose, sharing,  “Hug all your friends daily and buy them cookies at lunch to show your love for them.”

Leaving your mark at St. Rose High School is imperative to having a memorable high school experience. Participate in as many clubs and teams as you can. If we don’t offer that sport or club, then create it! Show your true spirit! Ashley Ward offers great advice to the underclassmen, sharing, “Get in as many as Mrs. McIsaac iPad pictures as you can, you’ll become St. Rose twitter famous!” Garrett Jordan states, “By being involved, I have made a ton of friends with bonds that are unbreakable. I also was faced with obstacles that forced me to work harder and accomplish more than I ever imagined.” Be the one in the fan section cheering the loudest!

Your days here will go by fast. You may not beleive it now, but when you are sitting in class on the last day of high school you will wonder where all the time went. Sam Boehmcke beautifully shared with the underclassmen, “I remember freshman year sitting in the little theatre and being told that before you know it you’ll be sitting here as seniors waiting to load the bus for Disney. I didn’t believe it, how could I? But then I blinked and next thing you know you’re in Disney with your best friends taking it all in…. My best advice is to really take in all the little things that you may take for granted. High School goes fast so do all that you can to make as many memories as you can!”. Cherish your memories from St. Rose, for each one is worth remembering. Congratulations to The Class of 2017! Your journey toward greatness has only just begun!
