Reflections on Freshman Year

Freshman year.  A new start, a time to reinvent yourself.  A time of finding new friendships, getting to know new teachers, or creating a new worth ethic.  Overall, it is a time to try new things and get to know yourself better as well.

This year at Saint Rose High School, the freshman Class of 2021 had a successful, fun year.  They were always willing to participate in activities such as the Walk-A-Thon, Clash of the Classes, and showing up to many school events such as the sports games or plays.

Bella Conforti and Tori Wilson reflected on their whole freshman year experience.  They discussed their favorite memory and gave advice for the incoming freshmen.

Bella stated, “My favorite memory was the Inaugural dance because I got to spend it with all my new friends and it was super fun. Some advice for incoming freshmen is that high school is not as scary as it looks or sounds.  Also, always try your best in school”.

Tori agreed saying, “My favorite memory from freshman year was probably the freshman sophomore dance! The advice I’d have for the incoming freshman is probably to just try and be friends with everyone because even if you don’t like someone on the first day of school they might end up being one of your really good friends by the end of the year.”

Overall, freshman year is a special time in a person’s life.  It is the beginning of high school and a year that will never be forgotten.  Congrats on making it a successful first year of high school to the Class of 2021!

Reflections on Sophomore Year

Sophomore year, the second year at Saint Rose High School, is the year that you can really enjoy and a great time in high school before you begin to plan for college and your future in the following two years. I had the opportunity to sit and speak with Emma Coakley, Mercedes Escandon, Erin Odea, and Bridget Richards and asked them about their thoughts on their sophomore year and what they felt were things that made their year truly memorable. Firstly, the girls brought up the freshman and sophomore dance. Saint Rose dances are a really great time to have fun with friends and not focus on school work. Bridget Richards described this year’s dance as “a really fun night that I will look back at for the time spent with my close friends.”

Next, they spoke very enthusiastically about the annual sophomore class trip on a boat ride around the Chelsea Pier, where they had the opportunity to go to a sports complex and take part in a various amount of sports and games and have fun. Emma Coakley said, “It was definitely one of my favorite class trips I have been on and I’m really looking forward to next year’s trip”. Another aspect of their sophomore year that they found to be highlight was the Clash of Classes, which takes place during Spirit Week in October every year. The students from each grade have the opportunity to participate and cheer on their fellow classmates in wide variety of games and events. Erin Odea stated that, “The Clash of the Classes was a really fun day because I got to participate with all of my friends and joke around in a way that shows school spirit”. Sophomore year is filled with many events and opportunities to have fun with friends and Mercedes Escandon described her overall year as, ”One that I will look back on and remember the fun times with friends and I am really excited for Junior year to make even more memories with them”.

Reflections on Senior Year

As the Seniors prepare to graduate, it is impossible not to look back on the memories of the past four years as a time of friendship and personal growth. Most people say that high school goes fast, and on the first day of freshman year, it is easy to figure those people are exaggerating just how quickly the time passes. But, as I reflect on my high school career, I can easily agree that the four years spent in high school really do fly by. Senior year is thought by many to be the best of high school, and at Saint Rose, many students would agree. There are many aspects of Senior year at our school that make it so great, including Prom and the class trip to Disney World. How many people can say that they traveled to the “Happiest Place on Earth” with all of their closest friends? The real highlights of the trip to Disney were the laughs had with friends and the unique experiences each group received over the course of the three days in Orlando. Even the students who did not attend the class trip would have to agree that Senior year at Saint Rose is made great by several unique opportunities, and is a great way to cap off the past four years. Prom is another occasion that offers a fun time for any interested Seniors, and is the last school-sanctioned event where the Senior class is gathered together before their graduation ceremony. The chance to get dressed up and dance the night away is appealing to many Seniors, both boys and girls, and is such a wonderful opportunity to spend one last big event with classmates. Senior year has been a strong finish to my high school career, and I am extremely grateful for the opportunities to spend my past four years with close friends that I will keep for years to come!
