Youth Groups

Christian youth groups have become increasingly popular in the United States. Youth groups, also known as youth ministry, connects children with others who attend their church or live in their community. They also encourage adolescents to learn more about the Catholic faith and become more involved in spiritual life.

Youth groups are well known for making learning about Catholicism fun for Children. Many groups integrate activities such as arts and crafts and games with the lessons of the Bible. In many situations, the children have so much fun that they do not realize that they are learning. Therefore, adolescents will enjoy studying Jesus and will be more likely to worship him for the rest of their lives.

Many youth groups are dedicated to performing service within the community. In a youth group, children learn skills such as innovative thinking, leadership, teamwork, and responsibility while discovering their faith. Most importantly, youth groups teach adolescents to acknowledge God’s calling to assist our brothers and sisters in need.

At Saint Rose High School, there are many opportunities for students to engage in programs similar to youth groups. Clubs such as Alteration and Magnify directly assist students to better understand and truly appreciate the perfection of mass. Alteration challenges its members to alter their perspective on Mass, while Magnify engage students in a discussion on various faith topics based on the Liturgical Season or event.

If you have the chance to join a youth group, do not pass it up. You will be fortunate enough to praise the Lord in a spiritual yet fun environment alongside friends with the same beliefs as you.

Physics Trip

On Friday, May 4th, the physics classes visited Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson. Six Flags has specific days for high school physics classes to go on the rides while also having an educational experience. The park provides lower ticket prices for physics students on select days in the spring. Mrs. Keegan organized the trip for her students this year because it allows them to see the physics concepts they learned to all of the roller coasters and rides.

Juniors and seniors who take physics this year were invited to go on the trip along with seniors who completed physics last year. In total, there were about 30 students who went on the trip. Mrs. Keegan, Mr. Heinzmann, Mrs. Canning, and Mr. Sauer were the chaperones for the trip and they even got to enjoy some of the roller coasters at Six Flags. It was a great day for the students to be outside and enjoy the warm, sunny weather while also having an educational experience.

Students rode Kingda Ka, Bizzaro, Superman, Batman, Nitro, El Toro, Runway Mine Train, Green Lantern, The Dark Knight, Rolling Thunder, Skull Mountain, Road Runner Railway, Jumbo Jet, The Joker, and numerous other rides. Some of the students were adventurous to go on Kingda Ka, the tallest roller coaster in the world, and Zumanjaro, the ride attached to the Kingda Ka. Other students opted for Superman where you ride on your stomach just as Superman flies around or Bizzaro with multiple loops. There were plenty of thrills and rides for students to spend their time on until they departed for school at 1:30.

All of the students enjoyed their day at Six Flags and were happy to see how their knowledge of physics applied to the rides throughout the park!

AP Exams are HERE

The time has finally come! All of the tremendous hard-work and dedication a large amount of Saint Rose High School students performed is about to be worthwhile! Beginning on Monday, May 4th, the AP tests will be given to the brilliant students who challenged themselves the entire year! Through the colossal amount of homework given and the difficulty of the tests they received, the students are more prepared than ever to take these tests. They each hope to pass with a 4, or even greater with a perfect score of 5. These worldwide tests are huge challenges, however, the students feel their teachers worked so hard the entire year to make them feel comfortable with the information they were taught. Alex Fazzari states “I will actually be taking a few of these tests and at this point I expected to be much more stressed than I am. I came to realize that by putting in so much effort from the start I was able to remember the details of each subject much easier and I feel more confident going into it. It was my most difficult year by far, but in the end it will be rewarding to see how I do on the tests hopefully.”

For week one, Monday, May 7th to Friday, May 11th, there are both morning tests and afternoon tests. The morning will begin at 8am, while the afternoon tests start at 12pm. Once the students are done with their tests for the day, they are able to go home and enjoy the rest of their day after such a nerve racking few hours. However, if they would like, they may go back to classes and finish out the day. They are able to dress down in whatever they will feel most comfortable testing in, to ensure they are able to be completely focused during it. The same thing occurs for week two, Monday, May 14th to Friday May 18th, however, their will be the 8am morning session, the 12pm afternoon session, and then another afternoon session at 2pm for each day. This is because there are three tests that occur each day. It is going to be a long two weeks for the students and teachers, but when the scores come back in July they will hopefully transfer deserving emotions of happiness.

Good luck to all of the amazing students who deserve the best on these upcoming tests! Below is a picture of the full schedule for the two weeks.

Science Fair

It’s that time of year! The St. Rose annual science fair took place on Thursday, April 26, and was a huge success! The Anatomy, Forensic Science, Honors Chemistry, and Honors Physics classes all took part of this big St. Rose event. The Science Fair is a great academic event that allows the students involved to set their mind on a project and work towards a goal. Taylor Reilly, Honors Physics 1st place winner says, “A lot of the projects were really good and it was nice to see everyone’s work. It’s great to be able to see the final result of everyone’s work from the past month.” Taylor’s group created a massive Rube Goldberg with the end result taking a selfie, “Researching for our project led us to this idea, there was a lot of trial and error, but it worked great in the end.” Andrew Vinca, 2nd place winner from the Anatomy class said, “It was a lot of hard work, but it was worth it. It was cool to see everyone’s hard work pay off. Working in a group made it a lot easier, the collaborative environment helped us keep an open mindset throughout the entire process.” Andrew’s group rearticulated a skeleton of a green iguana and made it “Mushu” from Mulan. Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors all participate in the science fair; the students learn how to create their own experiment, time management, and how to work efficiently in a group. This year’s winners are listed below:

Sports Update

Saint Rose High School’s Spring sports teams are excelling tremendously! Each and every team has been working extremely hard to improve in order to win their games.

This Spring season, the lacrosse team has worked extremely hard to better themselves as a whole. The girl’s lacrosse team are shore conference playoff contenders this season. They are more of a young team, consisting of mostly sophomores. Their highly admired, new coach is David Dudzinski. With his help and encouragement, the lacrosse team has developed a much better record than last year. For instance, as of now their record is 3-5. As for practices, the team meets at the Hurley Pond fields. Typically, at these practices the girls work to the best of their ability in order to gain strength and knowledge on the game and prepare themselves for their next victory!
Tori Wilson, Saint Rose High School Freshman, says, “It’s really exciting as a freshman to be part of such an up and coming team, and I’m really looking forward to all the future progress we’ll make!”

Other favorite Spring sports teams are the softball and baseball teams. The girl’s softball team practices many days throughout the school week, mainly Monday through Friday. Their practices are held at the Saint Rose High School sports fields, batting facilities, and the weight room. They practice their skills and develop better strategies for their upcoming games, with the help of Joe Braun, this year’s coach. The team seems to enjoy a variation of practices and workouts that helps them better themselves and their team as a whole. Saint Rose High School Senior, Emily McInerney, stated, “The softball team is working extremely hard, especially since we practice every day during the week. I enjoy practicing and learning what we need to improve for the future so that we can win our upcoming games!”

Be sure to come out and support all the Spring Sports teams before it’s too late! Go Roses!
