Making Memories at St. Rose

When you look back on high school a million memories will flood into your mind. Memories give you something to hold on to even when something has ended. At St. Rose we are blessed with so many traditions that can serve as lasting memories for high school. Make sure you take advantage of all of them while you have the opportunity.

These are the Top Ten Memories for a St. Rose student:

  • Senior Trip to Disney: This trip is an unforgettable experience to have with your class. The 18 hour bus ride, four days in all the Disney parks, and all your friends all together is a hallmark of the St. Rose experience.
  • Kairos: This retreat is a moving and eye opening experience that will grow your faith and expand your relationships with your classmates. It is afoul day retreat in Cape May that allows you to unplug and be present in the moment to connect with your faith and others.
  • Sports: Whether it’s going to the annual soccer game against Wall, sitting in the student section at the basketball games, Friday night hockey games, or participating on your own team, these are the moments you will treasure. The games we won as a team or the lessons we learned from losing.
  • Inaugural: This dance starts the year off with a fun night to get dressed up and dance the night away with your friends. It also celebrates the new Student Council members.
  • Prom: Junior and senior prom are unforgettable nights for everyone in high school. These are the two dances that will stick out the most in your high school memories. You will treasure the pictures from that night ad always remember the fantastic time you had with your friends.
  • Clash of the Classes: This brings the entire school community together to compete against each other. Whether you are participating in the events or watching from the bleachers, it is a day to celebrate your class and of course watch the seniors win.
  • Class trips: Spending the entire day with you class is such a memorable experience. Going to the Franklin Institute, Chelsea Piers, or a Broadway show
  • Bonfire on the beach: This event celebrates the fall athletes and is a fun way to kick off the school year. With the DJ and watching all of the teams dance, it is always entertaining to attend.
  • Fall Drama & Spring Musical: Going to the plays and supporting your classmates is always a fun time. The singing and the dancing will exceed your expectations. Being in the cast, stage crew, or the makeup crew is a great activity to be involved in.

Mr. St. Rose: This competition never fails to make you laugh. Watching senior boys dance and sing their way through the male pageant brings the whole school together for an entertaining afternoon.

How to Study & Get Organized

With school just around the corner, summer work is coming to an end and back to school shopping is starting up! A huge aspect to success throughout the school year is staying organized. This is really difficult for many people, but with consistent neatness it can easily be achieved. When you go to buy your notebooks, be sure to get one for each class. Cramming multiple subjects into one notebook never goes well, especially when you find yourself running out of pages! In addition, it’s great to get folders for each subject corresponding to the color of each notebook. This will allow you to find them easily and hold any loose hand outs that your teachers give you. With a sharpie, write the name of each subject on each notebook and folder so you never mix up which notes should go in which. In addition, a homework planner would be very sufficient in order to avoid forgetting to do anything before it’s due. It will not only prepare you but will also help you with your time management. These are so important and will help make the school year much easier.
When it comes to studying, you have to find what works best for you. In a addition, don’t get in the habit of studying for big tests the night before. By shoving so much into your head at once, you will forget the things much quicker. This will halt you during the test. In addition, by making charts and index cards you can quiz yourself on the material over and over until you feel perfectly comfortable with it. The morning of or the period before the test, I recommend to just skim over your notes in order to refresh your brain with the material. In relation to the notes you take, try and be as neat as possible, even though this is difficult because of how fast you have to write. To help out with this, try and shorten larger words into a few letters. For example, rather than writing because just simply write ‘bc.’ I hope this helps you get the job done this year! Stay focused and work hard!

Focusing on Your Faith

By being a member of the faithful Saint Rose High School community, we are fortunate enough to worship and learn about God on a daily basis. But unfortunately, the end of the school year is fast approaching. During the summer, most of us will not spend nearly enough time at either St. Rose High School or St. Rose Church as we would like to. Therefore, we will not have the same experiences while praising God as we do when we come together as a full community. However, it is still imperative that we worship God during the summer, even if we are apart for St. Rose. The following includes tips on how to successfully focus on our faith throughout the summer.

The first tip is to continue to go to mass at least once a week, especially on holy days. Attending church is important because we are able to worship God with other believers and be taught His Word. When we worship Christ in a group setting, we create a sincere connection with one another and God. Praying with other worshipers is extremely beneficial because we have the opportunity to help each other grow and encourage each other to praise God more passionately.

Also, I suggest joining a ministry group. These groups improve the church community and encourage other members in the area to join. Also, many ministry groups are dedicated to following the word of God by performing service within the community. Similar to in Church, members of church groups love and support each other while creating a covenant with Christ.

Finally, independently and passionately pray to God everyday. Prayer is essential because it is a communication line to the almighty God. We pray to Christ to help others and ourselves and to thank him for everything he does for us. During prayer, we are always reassured of the intensity of God’s love for all his creatures.

Although summer is an extended vacation, it can not be seen as a break from worshiping the Lord. When you are sitting on the beach and relaxing in the sun, take a moment to pray and praise God. Enjoy your summer!

Becoming More Involved in School

In order to begin your journey towards greatness as Saint Rose High School, you must begin with joining as many activities as you possibly can! Saint Rose High School surely does provide students with many different sports, clubs, and organizations to be involved in! Whether you are athletic, artistic, intelligent, or simply eager to meet new people, Saint Rose High School has the perfect group for you!

As for sports, Saint Rose High School provides their students with almost every single sport you can possibly think of. We have a variation of fall, winter, and spring sports throughout the entire school year. Especially as an incoming freshman, you have the perfect opportunity to join a new sport and meet new people! For instance, if you are considering joining a fall sport you will most likely meet people on your team and practice before the school year even starts. All of the teams are extremely welcoming and the coaches are eager to teach you the rules of each game. So if you are nervous to try something new because you don’t know much about it, don’t be! You are there to learn and gain knowledge, while simultaneously making friends for life!

If you are not very athletic, there are definitely other options for you. Whether it is finding groups of your own interests or participating in different organizations and clubs, there is a fit for you. Some of the clubs and organizations at Saint Rose High School include art clubs, national honors society, ambassadors, student council, as well as a variation of other interests. It is very important to become involved in different groups especially as a freshman to meet fellow classmates and develop an outstanding transcript for when you apply to college in a few years! Dara Johnson, Saint Rose High School Senior, mentioned, “One of my best decisions here, at Saint Rose High School, was to become involved in different sports and clubs. I feel as though it really helped me meet new people and also helped me in the long run, while I was applying for colleges and filling out applications!”

Therefore, Saint Rose High School encourages all students to become involved, to not only help themselves, but to ensure a productive future!  When you are notified for club and sports team sign-ups, don’t be shy! Definitely try something new because you never know what you might have interest in and your high school years are a great time to figure that out!
