Spring Track

This year’s spring track team had another successful season. With the ability to practice at the St.Rose Field, in the gym, and go to pilates, the team was able to build up their strength and be well prepared for all of their regular season and invitational meets.
Lead by their fourteen seniors, the boys and girls track team won several dual meets. The girl’s team won their meets against Asbury, Trinity, Mater Dei and Ranney.The boy’s team won their meets against Asbury, Ranney, Point Beach and Keyport. In addition to dual meets, the track team participated in the Big Blue Meet, the St. Joseph’s by the Sea Meet, the Penn Relays, Counties, the Long Branch Invitational, the state meet, and finished the season with the MOC.
Starting off the season at the St. Joseph’s by the Sea Meet, Tim Theobald and Lauren Bunn both broke school records. Tim and Lauren both ran an a personal best and the school record for the steeplechase. In addition to Tim and Lauren setting new records, Andrew Huisman won the shot put and Alexandra Preckajlo won both the shot put and the discus. Jill Haggerty won the 400 hurdles. The team also went to the Long Branch Invitational and had Jill Haggerty win the 400 hurdles, Alexandra Preckajlo win the discus, and Andrew Huisamen win the shot put and the discus.
This year, the team also went to the Penn Relays. The first day, the girls had a 4×100 team consisting of Megan Lawson, Megan Theobald, Kirsten Heine and Brittany Lopes and a 4×400 team including of Jill Haggerty, Sheila Magrini, Lauren Bunn and Erin Dailey. The second day of the meet, the boys also had a 4×100 team with Billy Tenzca, John O’Hearn, Connor McKowen, and Sean Breuche and a 4×400 including Tim Theobald, Drew Reilly, John O’Hearn, and Sean Breuche. Andrew Huisman also participated in the Penn Relays by throwing the shot put. At the counties, Andrew Huisman took first place in both the shot put in the discus. The team finished their season with several team members going to the Meet of Champions after placing in the top eight at the state meet. Next year, senior Alexandra Preckajlo will go on to throw for Manhattan College, Garrett Jordan will throw at Marquette University and Andrew Huisman will throw for Monmouth University. Although they will not be continuing track in college, seniors Erin Dailey and Kirsten Heine will both continue to be involved in school sports as they both will play soccer in college (Erin at William and Mary and Kirsten at Franklin and Marshall). The coaches look forward to next season and for the new seniors to step up and lead the team!
